Northamptonshire pilots avoided a head-on collision thanks to late observation

An inquest has heard that two light aircraft could have been involved in the head-on collision over Northamptonshire but for a “late sighting”.

The unfortunate incident, which took place near Sywell on May 24, involved a white DA40 aircraft and a red, white and gray RV6 model.

After receiving information about the aircraft flying at 12:00 Polish time and at the same altitude, the DA40 pilot began a climb before passing directly below it.

The Airprox UK Management, external Pilot accounts, radar images and reports were taken into account before assessing the collision risk as Category B, which is the second highest possible risk.
