7 Maoists, including a key leader, killed in shootout with Telangana police – The Week

On Sunday, in a major strike, the elite anti-Naxal forces of Telangana Police shot dead seven Maoists while combing in the forest areas of Mulugu district. According to police, key leaders of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed in the operation.

According to the Telangana Police, the anti-naxal unit, Telangana Greyhounds, conducted an area dominance exercise on Sunday in the Eturnagaram forest area of ​​Mulugu district. The combing operation was launched after militants recently killed two tribesmen claiming to be tribal informants.

Police said that during the operation, the commandos clashed with Maoists in the Eturnagaram forest area and seven members of the banned group were killed in the exchange of fire. Police found two AK-47s at the scene and are investigating.

According to Times of India, the deceased have been identified as CPI (Maoist) Telangana state committee secretary Kursam Mangu alias Bhadru, division committee member Egolapu Mallaiah, party members Mussaki Deval, Jamuna, Jai Singh, Kishore and Kamesh.

On Thursday, Maoists allegedly attacked two tribal members, including the Gram Panchayat secretary, by impersonating them as police informers. The deceased were identified as Peruru Gram Panchayat secretary Uik Ramesh and Uik Arjun. The Maoists also left a letter after the murder. Ramesh was allegedly murdered for informing the police about Maoist movements in the area.

Condemning the murders, members of tribal communities in the region organized a protest march on Friday, demanding government support for the families of the dead. The tribes demanded action against the banned outfit.
