The judge heard the 36-year-old jumped over a fence to get to Mr Stokes.

He later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared in court in October.

Meanwhile, Forgie, of Valley Lane, Meopham, was released on bail and ordered to undergo a pre-sentence report.

But when the gunman appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on November 19, deputy district judge Nicola Fleck learned that the report had not been completed in time for the hearing.

Prosecutor James Nichols said: “This was a 32-second incident on April 7 during which he repeatedly punched the man to the ground.

“It was at least 10 blows that resulted in broken bones and he jumped the fence and pinned him to the ground.”

Judge Fleck decided the case was too serious to be tried in a lower court and sent Forgie’s case to Maidstone Crown Court to be sentenced there.

She told him he would be notified by mail about his sentencing hearing and granted him bail until then.

The hearing did not say why Forgie attacked Mr Stokes.
