Charges filed against Kansas City man accused of rape in Zona Rosa parking lot

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Kansas City man faces sexual assault charges stemming from an incident that occurred in a Zona Rosa parking lot almost a year earlier.

Platte County, Missouri, District Court Records filed on Tuesday, November 26 show that Adrian L. Horton, 20, of Kansas City, has been charged with rape in connection with a sexual assault in Zona Rosa.

Affidavit of Probable Cause Filed by Kansas City, Missouri Police Department disclosed that on December 6, 2023, to the Eastern Patrol Division at 2460 Prospect Ave. Emergency services were called with reports of a victim reporting a sexual assault that had occurred the day before.

During the victim’s statement to police, she testified that Horton, whom she previously knew, took her for a ride. The couple established boundaries that no sexual contact would take place before they set out for the Zona Rosa.

When Horton parked his vehicle near the Dillard’s parking garage, law enforcement officials said he attempted to make physical contact with the victim. When she denied him, Horton began choking her and sexually harassing her.

Investigators noted that Horton drove the victim back home after the robbery. She later sought medical attention and a sexual assault testing kit. Horton’s DNA was recovered by police through a search warrant and tested for a sexual assault kit. The results showed that Horton was most likely the perpetrator.

As a result, a warrant was issued for Horton’s arrest on Tuesday, subject to a bail of only $30,000. He was charged with second-degree rape.

As of Saturday, November 30, Horton is not behind bars. No further information has been released.
