Las Vegas police are looking for a suspect in an officer-involved shooting

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is searching for a suspect who was involved in an officer-involved shooting on Friday.

Police said 54-year-old Jaime Mendoza should be considered armed and dangerous. Mendoza could also get injured.

It all started on Friday around 10:26 p.m., when police found a vehicle in eastern Las Vegtas that was involved in what they described as a violent crime. The vehicle took off and police initially gave chase but lost sight of the vehicle.

Police then found the vehicle again about 6 miles west near Las Vegas Boulevard traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crashed and police say Mendoza fled the vehicle. The police chased him.

“During the foot pursuit, the suspect fired at the officers, causing one of them to fire his weapon,” police said. Police said Mendoza fled. It’s unclear whether the officer’s bullet hit Mendoza.

Anyone who knows his whereabouts or has information about him is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
