Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer pays tribute to victims on 3-year anniversary of Oxford shooting

Saturday marks three years since Shooting at Oxford High School.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist released statements to honor the victims who died in the Oxford High School shooting three years ago.

“Today, Michiganders unite to honor the four beautiful young souls we lost three years ago in the heartbreaking tragedy at Oxford High School.

“Justin, Madisyn, Tate and Hana were taken from us too soon. So many students, teachers and loved ones in the community are still struggling because of everything that happened that day. The road to recovery and peace is long and difficult. However, Michiganders will continue to support and wrap their arms around the people of Oxford. Michiganders always care about their friends, neighbors and fellow citizens – it’s what we do best.

“Now more than ever, let us continue to honor the memory of those we have lost and build upon our grief the resolve to protect our children, our families and our communities.”

Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Gilchrist released the following statement:

“As we mark three years since the heartbreak and shock of the Oxford tragedy, we honor and mourn the lost, comfort the injured and care for all whose lives were irrevocably changed that day. My family and the entire state of Michigan continue to send our love and prayers to the people of Oxford. School should be a place of learning and opportunity, not fear. Let us stand with the students, families and friends who continue to mourn this loss and work together to keep our communities safe.”
