The KBI is investigating the officer involved in a shooting Friday night in South Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday evening in Shawnee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) stopped a suspected driver on Friday, November 29, at approximately 10:30 p.m., near 2400 SE 45th Street.

Preliminary information shows that while conducting standard field sobriety tests, the driver ran off the road and a foot chase began.

There was a physical altercation between a soldier and a male subject.

During the incident, the soldier used a stun gun and pepper spray, and then fired his service weapon, hitting the man.

He was transported from the scene to a hospital in Topeka. The topic is currently stable.

At approximately 11 p.m., the KBI was notified of an officer-involved shooting and began an investigation.

The KBI will conduct a thorough and independent investigation into this shooting. The results of this investigation will be presented to the Shawnee County District Attorney for review.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released at this time.
