A Waterloo man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into an ambulance in Bath

BATH, N.Y. (WETM) — A Waterloo man was arrested early Wednesday morning after police say he broke into the Bath Emergency Medical Services building and was found hanging out of a second-story window.

James L. Dyer, 38, was arrested after police investigated a report of a man breaking into a Bath ambulance located at 110 E. Steuben St. while people were inside on Nov. 27. According to the Bath Police Department, all personnel had evacuated the building by the time officers arrived at approximately 2:46 a.m. Staff told officers that the man, later identified as Dyer, broke the glass on the building’s front door to gain entry.

Police say Dyer was then seen jumping out of a second-story bathroom window and officers told him to go back inside and exit the building via a safer route. Instead of going back inside, Dyer allegedly went to the roof of the building and refused to cooperate with police.

After a brief exchange, Bath Fire Department personnel escorted Dyer from the roof, according to police. After being taken into custody by police, he was transported to Ira Davenport Hospital for treatment for his self-inflicted injuries.

Dyer was charged with second-degree burglary (a Class C felony) and criminal mischief (a Class D felony).

After being released from the hospital, Dyer was taken to the Steuben County Jail to await his charges being read in court. Dyer has since been fired.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Bath Fire Department and Bath Emergency Medical Services assisted police with this incident.
