Where MSU Football ranks among the Big Ten

With the Michigan State Spartans football season ending and their final game against Rutgers, the team has had some ups and downs along the way. From start to finish, regardless of the outcome of MSU’s season, the team as a whole fought until the end.

The Spartans rank 13th in the Big Ten in average yards allowed per game and enter their last game averaging 340.7. Spartan’s opponents, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, rank eighth in the conference in average yards per game with an average of 382.6.

MSU is in the top 10, ranking 10th in passing yards per game, averaging 224.3. Quarterback Aidan Chiles has been a regular for the Spartans throughout the season. Sam Chiles is averaging 205.9 yards in 11 games played so far for MSU. MSU is averaging more passing yards than Rutgers, which may only favor them in the matchup.

The Spartans rank among the ranks when it comes to theirs hasty crime. He ranks 14th in the conference with a rushing average of 116.5 yards per game. The Scarlet Knights are ahead of the ball compared to MSU, where they rank fourth in the Big Ten and average 173.4 rushing yards per game.

When it comes to the final offensive statistic, which is average points scored per game, MSU ranks 15th. Fifteenth overall is their lowest offensively, as MSU averages 19.8 points per game. MSU’s opponents, Rutgers, are averaging 26.7 points per game this season.

Moving on to the defensive side of the game, MSU ranks higher than its opponents in average defensive yards allowed per game. The Spartans rank ninth in the Big Ten and are averaging 329 yards receiving against opponents. Rutgers ranks next to last with 392.3 defensive yards.

MSU also ranks ninth in pass defense at 211.5 yards per game, while Rutgers is allowed at 241.7 yards per game. When it comes to rushing defense, MSU ranks eighth with 117.5 rushing yards per game. Rutgers’ defense allowed an average of 151.5 rushing yards.

Although MSU ranks higher on defense compared to Rutgers, both teams have the same number of points allowed average at 24.7 per game. It can easily come down to who will make fewer mistakes and emerge victorious in the final game.
