One person died as a result of flash floods on the Greek island of Limnos

ATHENS – A man died as a result of heavy rainfall following flash floods that hit the Greek island of Limnos in the northern Aegean Sea on Saturday.

A fire brigade representative said the body of a 57-year-old cattle breeder was found near his car.

“He tried to pull the car out of the mud, but in the Kontias region it was swept away by a torrent,” the official told Reuters.

The fire department received dozens of calls to pump water from flooded buildings on the island, a second fire official said.

The Greek Civil Protection Service warned citizens of heavy rain, storms and gales in central and northern Greece over the weekend. REUTERS
