Chargone:

Four people, including three women and a small child, were killed and 21 others injured when the private bus they were traveling in veered off the road and overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district on Saturday, police said.

A Khargone-Alirajpur bus was traveling at excessive speed when the driver lost control of the steering wheel at Jiratpura junction near Segaon, about 42 km from the district headquarters, in the afternoon, killing four people on the spot, a police official said.

Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Meena told PTI that eight of the 21 injured passengers were shifted to the district hospital and the rest were admitted to nearby health centers.

A JCB machine was mobilized to restore the original position of the bus, which had fallen on its side, he added.

The bus driver fled the scene after the incident, he said, adding that the conductor was detained by the police.
