Houston Academy player seriously injured during semifinal victory

A celebration follows at Houston Academy won 48-28 over Southside-Selma on Friday night in the Class 3A semifinals was mitigated by a serious injury to one of the team’s players.

Martin Andre, a right guard and thug right fielder, went down at the 1:27 mark of the third quarter and suffered a seizure after apparently taking a hit to the head on the field. head coach Eddie Brundidge told the Dothan Eagle. After being treated by doctors and medical staff, the sophomore was transported to Flowers Hospital.

Shortly after midnight, Brundige told the Dothan Eagle that Andre was undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. After the operation, he was to be flown to a hospital in Birmingham.

“A few shows ago, he hit a guy and he got up,” Brundidge said. “Then he played one or two games and started complaining about his head. Then he started attacking on the sideline.
