Sai Teja’s relatives said that after the incident on September 30 at At 5:40 a.m. EST, they received information that two people with a robbery motive had shot Sai Teja after pointing a gun at him and collecting cash.
Sai Teja worked part-time as a cashier in a store. On June 15, he left for the United States to pursue multiple sclerosis after completing his BBA from Hyderabad. He was accepted at Concordia University in Chicago.
Family members said Sai Teja had finished his shift and was about to leave when another person asked him to stay for a while as it was Friday and the person wanted to go for Namaz.
Meanwhile, two assailants who appeared at the cash register demanded Sai Teja to hand over the cash. The family is deeply troubled and mourning,” the relative said.
“The guilty attacker should be severely punished. An innocent life was lost,” the relative said.
Sai Teja’s father Koteshwar Rao Nukarapu and mother Vani live in Khammam town in Raparthinagar. Sai Teja has an older sister who also went to the United States and started working there after graduating.
Koteshwar Rao’s neighbors said that Deputy Prime Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Khammam MP R Raghuram Reddy, along with authorities in the MEA and the US, sought help to bring Sai Teja’s body to India.
The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) has also taken the initiative to send the body to Khammam, but relatives say it may take at least a week as an autopsy and official formalities will need to be completed.
