A man, who was undergoing treatment at the Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram after sustaining a head injury due to an assault, died here on Saturday. The deceased, Biju, 41, a resident of Njavelikonam in Kilimanoor, was hit on the head with a stone by Rajiv, a resident of Kilimanoor, during an argument.

The incident took place on November 17. The police had earlier recorded Rajiv’s arrest on charges of attempt to murder and his remand in judicial custody. With Biju’s death, the police registered a murder case. Rajiv was held by the police in a safe house on the night he attacked Biju.

According to the police, Rajiv’s daughter and Biju were in a relationship. The family did not encourage this and Biju’s daughter withdrew from the relationship. Rajiv, however, insisted on marrying Biju’s daughter and reached his house on November 17.

Rajiv got into a fight with Biju and hit him on the head with a stone. Biju was taken to Medical College Hospital. Police said that before ascertaining the cause of death, the statement of the doctor who performed the post-mortem and treated Biju would be taken.
