The crime branch has so far arrested 26 people in this case, including alleged main shooter Shiv Kumar Gautam.

Stringent MCOCA provisions have been invoked in the Baba Siddique murder case, a Mumbai Police official said without going into details.

It is important to note that statements given to the police under MCOCA are admissible as evidence in court. It is also difficult to secure bail under MCOCA.

Former Maharashtra minister Siddique (66) was shot dead on October 12 by three assailants outside the office building of his son MLA Zeeshan Siddique in Bandra East, Mumbai.

He suffered two gunshot injuries to the chest and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he died.

Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol has been arrested in the US for his alleged role in Siddique’s murder and firing outside actor Salman Khan’s house in Mumbai.

Suspected key conspirators Shubham Lonkar and Zishan Mohammad Akhtar remain at large.
